About KasKas is a gorgeous picturesque town nestling between the Mediterranean and the Taurus Mountains. The steep slopes rise from the town to 500 meters, protecting it from the northerly winter winds and resulting in a mild year round micro climate. This is the most southerly of Turkish resorts and it enjoys long hot summer days and short winters. Kas is located in the region known as Lycia; the homeland of the once renowned people of the advanced Lycian civilisation that predated the Greeks and Romans. The town was built on the site of the ancient Greek town of Antiphellos - but remains of the earlier Lycian civilisation are to be seen all about the town and on the surrounding mountain sides. Here you will sense the deep culture of classic predecessors who once lived in this beautiful place. Kas is an area of spectacular scenery, fascinating history, abundant and varied wildlife and gorgeous climate. The thriving town of about 8000 local inhabitants is large enough to be able to offer a range of facilities but not so large as to have lost its sense of intimacy and integrity. It's not just a pretty place you know... Kas is a 'year round' town. It has several excellent super markets providing the widest possible range of staples, exotic foods, wines and all the bits and bobs needed to sustain civilised life. There are many shops offering every manner of products from clothes to kitchen appliances. During the winter months very few restaurants and bars close as a result of 'end of season'. The local economy is not depedent on tourism and provides locals and expats a thriving environment to live in and enjoy at any time of year. Current developments in Kas include a new yacht marina that will accommodate 437 yachts with facilities including; restaurants, keep fit centre, spa, shops, restaurants, bars and a helipad. A 50+ bed hospital is also being built that will have the latest and greatest medical technology installed to service the Kas and Kalkan areas. In addition, a new sports centre is currently under construction on the edge of town. Kas offers everything on a human scale - whether relaxation, adventure, or exploration, Kas is the perfect centre from which to enjoy deeply satisfying time for any duration of residence. Eclectic and cosmopolitan - Many Turkish people from Istanbul, Ankara and other large Turkish cities have made Kas their home. The town is peppered with early retirees from professional backgrounds who run bars and restaurants - making the town the most delightful social and engaging place on the entire Mediterranean. English is widely spoken although the expat population come from all corners of the Earth - there is no predominance of any particular expat nationality.
Until 25 years ago when the coastal roads were built, access to the town was only possible by boat; today boating still plays a large role in the life of the town. The harbour offers mooring for a range of vessels including gulet cruise boats which can be chartered to tour the beautiful coastline and a flotilla of small fishing boats that sell their catch early in the mornings. Kas is famous as a centre for scuba diving throughout the world - with its crystal clear waters, abundant variety of sea life, sea bed wrecks and 12 diving schools and all the charms of the social scene, it is is not difficult to understand why. Other activities available include; paragliding, sea-kayaking, trekking, mountain biking, canyoning, jeep safaris and arts and crafts. For serious walking or for a gentle scenic stroll, there is the 509 kilometre Lycian way; which passes above Kas in the mountains. It is considered by the Sunday Times to be one of the ten most beautiful walks in the world. |

Excellent restaurants and shops are to be found in the older part of the town, a hillside cluster of buildings with traditional Ottoman balconies and stone-paved streets. To the west of the town the ancient Greek amphitheatre is still used for concerts and other cultural events. The Kas peninsular has many beautiful properties that attract 'buy to let' investors as well as people from all over the world who choose to make their home there. There are a range of properties for sale in Kas and the surrounding areas that will meet almost every budget and lifestyle expectation. Turkey Horizon estate agents in Kas are located close to the 'Lions Tomb'; the most famous monument in the town.
