About Kalkan

Kalkan is a charming seaside village just up the road a bit from Kas. The old town's cobbled streets are lined with colourful shops and outdoor cafes that lead down to the beach and the clear azure waters of the Mediterranean.

The town has a small marina where you will find gulets waiting to take you out for a day's excursion to swim and lunch around the nearby small islands and bays.

The village has a pebbly beach open to the public, but some prefer swimming directly off the rock platforms available at the 'Yacht Club' - on the far side of the marina. You will find it difficult to resist the charms of Kalkan; whole days can evaporate just browsing the little shops or sitting in a cafe watching the world go by, people watching and taking in the views.

One of the most pleasant things to do is to take a day trip in a gulet, a traditional flat-bottomed, motorized sailing boat.

You will find many gulets in Kalkan harbour taking small groups out daily to the coves and islands near Kalkan. You will enjoy lunch onboard and have ample opportunity to swim in the beautiful crystal clear azure water.

The area is popular with the Brits as a holiday destination and a place to buy property. Kalkan's ex-pat population is 90% British and English is widely spoken in the shops, bars and restaurants. The town maintains its integrity and charm that is essentially Turkish.

Despite the closeness of Kas and Kalkan, they are very different in many ways. Both of these towns have their individual charm, pros and cons. It is often said that the town chooses you, not the other way around. You know when you are chosen....
